How the Infamous Bracelet Came to Be

The Cape Cod bracelet, also known as the Cape Cod screwball bracelet, was first created in the 1960s. It got its start at Eden Hand Arts, a jewelry studio in Dennis that John and Eve Carey founded. When it was first made, it was known as the Dennis Bracelet or Dennis Screwball Bracelet. This simple design was a sterling silver band with a gold screw-on ball as the closure. John actually personally designed and fitted the bracelet until 2008. When he passed in 2012, his daughter and her husband continued the tradition. 

The bracelet’s popularity grew after Amy Jo Johnson wore one on the show Felicity. It made another TV appearance when a contestant on The Bachelorette gave one to that season’s bachelorette on a visit to Cape Cod.
