The Bass River is calm, protected, and lined with salt marsh, which makes it the easiest to paddle on this side of the Cape. Hourly kayak rentals are available a few minutes from our resort at Bass River Kayaks and Paddleboards. Keep in mind, they are only open seasonally.

For deeper water adventures, the options run in every direction. Go fishing with a local charter like Emma Jack Charters or Miss Savannah Charters. Whale watching with Hyannis Whale Watch Cruises or Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch is one of the must-do activities.

For Outdoor Lovers

One of the best ways to explore the area is on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. The paved former railbed carries you more than 20 miles toward Wellfleet past cranberry bogs and kettle ponds.

Other outdoor activities include exploring the hiking trails at the Cape Cod National Seashore, going for a walk along a marsh boardwalk at Gray’s Beach, and taking in scenic views from the Scargo Tower.

For History Buffs

Cape Cod is home to a rich history. In fact, our own resort is home to a piece of it. The tower above our resort was first lit in May 1855 as the Bass River Light.

History lovers will also enjoy visiting the JFK Hyannis Museum, which covers the Kennedy family’s Cape summers. Go for a drive along Route 6A, known as the old King’s Highway, which is lined with sea captains’ homes, burial grounds, and more.
